Want students to take better care of their math no Want students to take better care of their math notebooks? Make them more invested by making it a little bit ✨fancy✨!

PS If you’re worried your students will just shoot the rubber bands at each other, let them know if they do, they will lose their rubber band and will not get another one! It hasn’t been an issue in my experience.
Looking for some fun activities for the first day Looking for some fun activities for the first day of math class? Here are my three favorites:

✨How Well Do You Know Your Teacher?: Students try to match numbers to descriptions about the teacher (number of years teaching, states visited this summer, etc). 

✨Numbers Around the Room: Post the numbers 0-14 or so around your room (depends on age of your students) and then call out statements like “the number of your birthday month” or “the number of pets you have” and students go to stand by the number of their answer. Very low-pressure way to get to know each other!

✨Classroom Scavenger Hunt: Instead of lecturing about everything in your room, let them discover the things they’ll need to know for themselves!
